Eileen Novy Mixed Media Art
My artwork is as varied in the use of mediums as the subjects I choose. OIls. Pastels. Acrylics. Watercolor. Fabric. Thread. And found objects. New concepts excite me and the internet and the many instructional books and videos available are now my classroom as I study other artists and designers at work.
I had been encouraged by a highschool teacher to spend a summer at the Banff School of Fine Arts. There I learned the basics of watercolor. Later through adult education courses I learned the rudiments of various mediums and techniques. Then while living on the west coast I studied drawing, drafting, art history, visual art and architectural design. While sailing the coastal water I photographed, sketched and painted and participated in the Sooke Fine Art Club.
In recent years I discoverd quilt art which combines artistic expression with sewing skills. And I really like the spontaneous results when I lose control of the machine!
I was raised on the prairies of southern Alberta but also spent many years sailing the west coast around Vancouver Island. The vistas along the way were translated into works of art.
I have received honorable mentions for an impasto acrylic entered in Southern Alberta's Centennial competition and for a finger crocheted bull kelp sculpture in Victoria,B.C.
Some of my artwork is in Jan Rosgen's book You are an Artist.
An eclectic lifestyle has given me much inspiration. And my work is now in international collections.
